Something you might want to ask Obama supporters

Subject: Something you might want to ask Obama supporters

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my somewhat unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application. I say we try this in the next 10 days and we might be able to change a few minds...

  1. I come from Australia and laugh at facile rubbish such as this. Even the example you use is based around your broken idea of equity ... You tip for good service not because the waiter turns up with the right food ... that is called doing your job ... And if you paid a decent minimum wage he/she would be less angry at not getting the a tip. Fool! ... Try this one on for size in relation to wealth redistribution ... Give the executives who have failed shareholders and customers alike a 700 million (or is it billion the numbers just get more ridiculous) dollar handout and explain this rationally to the guy you pay a rubbish minimum wage and don't tip. You might want to ask Obama supporters to pass on the question to George Bush and John McCain ... Where have MY taxes gone ... where has MY wealth been redistributed?

  2. Thank you for your comment, Peter. While I am inclined to disagree with you, I certainly appreciate that you have signed your name with your comment.

  3. What really kills me even more than the "redistribution of wealth" business is the concept of social engineering for others. I get so tired of hearing people who have the money or good luck not to live in a neighborhood absolutely destroyed by illegal aliens call those who do live in such neighborhoods xenophobic racists for not appreciating the, uh, "multicultural vibrancy".

If you aren't willing to tolerate things going on in your neighborhood or at your kids' school, then don't push those things on other people.
